PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Jim is the Founder and Principal Broker of James Crews Real Estate and has over 33 years of diversified real estate experience. His areas of concentration include farm & timberland as well as commercial & industrial properties. Within this area of specialization he provides clients and customers with expertise in land brokerage, project marketing, surplus property disposition, site selection & valuation analysis, highest & best use analysis and development consulting.

Jim began his real estate career in 1986 with the Commercial Division of Bowers, Nelms & Fonville (now Long & Foster) and later associated with Harrison & Bates (now Colliers International), Morton G. Thalhimer (now Cushman & Wakefield) and lastly CB Richard Ellis before establishing his own company in 2002.

While his experience prior to 2002 was predominantly commercial in nature, since then Jim has focused his efforts and talents more toward rural land sales and forestry consulting in the counties located within the Piedmont and Coastal Plain Regions of Virginia. In that short period of time, he has sold over 40,000 acres in the counties and cities of Albemarle, Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Caroline, Chesterfield, Culpepper, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Goochland, Hanover, Harrisonburg, Henrico, King & Queen, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, Prince George, Spotsylvania, Southampton and Sussex.

EDUCATION / PERSONAL / COMMUNITY

Jim is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Management, with a concentration in Real Estate and Urban Land Development and a Minor in Economics. Additionally, he completed over 240 hours of graduate level curriculum earning him the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation and the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) designation.

Jim’s strong country roots are what led him to focus on rural real estate. Jim and his family own and operate a registered black Angus cattle, hay and tree farm in Buckingham County, VA which they have protected for future generations by recording a conservation easement on the property with the Virginia Outdoors Foundation (VOF). Since childhood, Jim has always had a passion for farming, land conservation practices, hunting, fishing, bird dogs and horseback riding.

Jim is an active member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Goochland County and has served on the church finance committee and the church leadership committee, member of Buckingham Cattlemen’s Association, member of Virginia Angus Association, Member of Central Virgina Cattlemen’s Association, member of Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, member of American Angus Association, past Senior Deacon of Westhampton Masonic Lodge 302, past President of Fords Homeowners Association, past President of the Association of Virginia Field Trial Clubs, Inc., past member of the Quail Task Force Committee at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, past member of the commercial committee for the Richmond Association of Realtors, past member of the Tuckahoe Water & Sewer Service District Committee, past member of Goochland County Economic Development Committee, past member of Goochland County Planning Commission representing the Dover District, past member of the Richmond Regional Planning Commission and past Treasurer of the Virginia Amateur Field Trial Association.
